Vaccinations

VaccinationsVaccinations play a central role in protecting our dogs from major canine infectious diseases.

Vaccinating to protect the health of our dogs therefore makes good sense and benefits both individual dogs and the wider community are clearly evident when weighed against the increased major disease risks when they are not widely used.

Puppies are vaccinated at 8 and 10 weeks; this is essential to provide immunity against Distemper, Parvo, Hepatitis, Leptospirosis and Para-Influenza.

Dog boosters are yearly there after. Your dog will receive a full health check and a top up vaccination every year and every 3rd year a health check and a full vaccination.

Titre testing is available. This is a quick blood test for your dog to assess the level of antibodies circulating in your pets blood when it is next due a vaccine. Titre testing is based on the principle that in some animals the immunity after vaccination lasts longer than expected allowing a tailored decision on whether to re-vaccinate. However the titre test is only available for some diseases. In most cases regular vaccination will still be recommended by the veterinary surgeon to maintain optimum protection against diseases that can not be accurately assessed in this way, such as canine leptospirosis. This can be given as a single vaccine.

Kittens are vaccinated at 9 and 12 weeks, which provides immunity against Infectious Enteritis, cat flu viruses and Feline Leukemia Virus.

Visiting your new puppy or kitten at home allows us to see them in their own surroundings, to fully discuss worming and parasite control, feeding and behaviour.
