SKY NEWS ON XMAS DAY

Photo

I was pleased to be asked to be involved with the Sealyham Terriers when they were filmed for Sky News to be shown on Xmas Day no less.  There's my excuse for burning the Xmas Dinner!

Most of the puppies behaved really well,  One of our dogs decided investigating  a rabbit hole was more fun than filming.  Sadly I had a terrible cold so you will probably not understand a word I say, but hey, just enjoy the views of these great little dogs.

COUNTRY LIFE MAGAZINE

Again our amazing clients Gail Westcott and Harry Parsons  have promoted the Sealyham terrier to a wide audience.  In conjunction with photographer Charles Sainsbury-Plaice there is a cover picture of Molly and a brilliant article and photos of Sealyhams in this weeks Country Life. (Oct 26th)

Deep in conversation!

MERCURY VETS   had a very good time at this years CLA Game Fair.

We were able to help several pets with injuries, also a lovely lady who had been bitten (!), and give lots of advice about working dogs. It was great to meet so many people and have some good conversations.

Many thanks to Marc who organised for us to be there and to the help from all at the Working Sealyham Terrier Club.

Mercury Vets are ideal to provide emergency veterinary services at country shows/ game fairs etc.  Do contact us if we can be of help.

12/7/09 : COVER GIRL MADGE

Filed magazine June 2007

Last month one of my patients had her picture on the front cover of THE FIELD magazine.

Her name is Madge and she is a 2 year old Sealyham Terrier.
Hasn't she got the most beautiful eyes?

Sealyham terriers are classified as a vulnerable breed with only 43 puppies registered last year. A Sealyham terrier won Best In Show at Crufts this year (but due to the absence of TV coverage no-one knew about it!).

Madge is one of several terriers belonging to Gail Westcott and Harry Parsons. They are kept as family members but also worked for ratting- a job they love and are exceptionally good at.

How It All Started

"I was locuming 3 days a week , for 2 different practices, but due to the recession the work was no longer available. So, as I was fast approaching my half century, I thought I ought to take a stern look at my life!

What aspect of my work did I really enjoy the most?

There was no single answer but  my favourrite areas are soft tissue surgery, meeting and helping people and their pets; and driving. See where this is going??

Meanwhile I did some locum work for The House Vet in Abbotskerswell (www.thehousevet.co.uk), and I realised how grateful clients were to have a vet that could call at their house. So, I put all these ideas together ….and came up with  MERCURY VETS!  I have to say that I had never wanted to run my own practice. I had always viewed that as a direct road to stress related illness! However, having brought up three children on my own I now feel well qualified to cope with stress!

So, I contacted  Animedic , a company that specialise in vehicles for vets. They had a unit , pre-owned but of the highest specification possible

That was when I felt sure  my idea was going to be a life changing opportunity. I would set up a mobile operating theatre…combining my love of surgery with driving around the stunningly beautiful Devon countryside, while also feeling that I was truly helping both pets and their owners.

So here I am. Several months later at last the proud owner of one of the first mobile operating theatres in England.
